This project began during my first semester at James Madison University. I was sitting in Dr. Dennis Blanton’s Historical Archaeology class, and he asked us if anyone knew about the history of Shenandoah National Park. I replied that I had ancestors that once lived there and had been displaced. During the lecture I became very interested in learning more about the people and their displacement. After class Dr. Blanton and I discussed doing an independent research project on Joel Booten, Mack Lane, and Lindsay Jenkins (my ancestors who had been displaced). As the project progressed so did my interest in the history of the Shenandoah National Park, especially in area of displacement. This experience has inspired me to continue my work in the Shenandoah National Park; specifically in the area of the Hazel
Mountain. This website is dedicated to that work.
